Eric M. Meslin
Eric is the partner lead on policy consultation and bioethics advisory practice.
Eric has had a diverse 35-year career in clinical, academic, government and not-for profit settings. A common thread throughout has been a focus on the ethical, social and policy implications of health, science, and technology.
His academic resume includes15 years as Founding Director of the Indiana University Center for Bioethics, Associate Dean for Bioethics in the IU School of Medicine, tenured Full Professor of Medicine, and of Philosophy and IU’s first Endowed Professor of Bioethics.
He has held academic positions at the University of Toronto, University of Western Australia, Université de Toulouse. Eric has had an equally productive policy leadership career including as the President and CEO of the Council of Canadian Academies, Bioethics Research Director of the Ethical, Legal, and Social Implications (ELSI) program at the National Human Genome Research Institute in the early years of the Human Genome Project, and Executive Director of the U.S. National Bioethics Advisory Commission established by President Bill Clinton.
Eric is a highly sought after advisor to World Health Organization, OECD, UNESCO, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Canadian Institutes of Health Research, Genome Canada, and the UK Biobank.
